Peel off the sealing tapes from the carton, and open the flaps on its sides to view the contents inside. To access the printer easily, place it on a flat surface, clear all the tapes and packaging material from inside and outside it. After removing all the protective material, take the power cord supplied along with the printer, connect one end of the cord to the printer’s rear, and the other end to a stable power source. Power up the printer by tapping the power icon on the control panel, and setting your preferences. Raise the cartridge access door, and wait for the carriage to move the access area. Remove the tapes on the new ink cartridges, and place the cartridges into the slots. The installation has to be done carefully, as misplacement can cause cartridge errors. The hardware setup for the printer is now complete.

The driver is an important software which helps you access the printer from your device. An installation disc is usually supplied along with the printer for installing the printer driver. Wireless Setup

To begin with the wireless setup, keep your network name and password ready. Once the printer has finished warming up, touch the Wireless icon on the control panel, and tap the Setup icon. How to print using Apple AirPrint from iOS

AirPrint is supported only on iOS devices running on version 4.2 and later. It also requires your printer and computer to be connected to the same local network. Unplug any USB Or Ethernet cables from the printer. Open the Wireless menu on the control panel, select Wireless Setup Wizard, and keep following the on-screen prompts until the wireless connection is established.

Printing

  • On the Welcome screen, the printer prompts to set your preferences such as Country/Region, Language, Time, and Date. Refer to the user manual to understand more about the Preferences menu.
  • After setting the preferences, tap the OK icon. Open the Control Panel Settings menu on the printer using the navigation menu.

The application lets you print from any mobile device that is connected to the same wireless network as your printer. Download the application from the Play Store, and install it on your device. Open the application, and select the printer’s name. To print a document saved in your device, open the application and tap Files. Select the file type and choose the document you want to print. Tap Edit to make changes to the document or Print settings, and select Print.

Printing with HP Smart app


The HP Smart application is available in the Google Play Store. Connect your mobile to the wireless network to which the printer is connected. Download the application, and install it by following the prompts. Open the application and tap Start. Select the name of the printer from the list of available printers. Tap the Print tile and select the item to be printed. Open the Print preview and choose an appropriate file type. Change the print job settings and tap Print.

Download and install the HP Print Service Plugin on your Android mobile running on OS 4.4 or later. The HP Print Service Plugin also requires the printer, and your Android mobile to be connected to the same wireless network. The application turns on automatically on Android 7 (Nougat) and later devices. If you are an Android 6 (Marshmallow) user, tap the Settings icon, locate the HP Print Service and select On. Open the application and tap the Menu icon followed by the Print option. A preview of the document will be displayed. Select the printer’s name and tap the drop-down arrow to make changes to the print settings. Now, tap the Print icon.

The HP OfficeJet 8710 printer scans at a resolution of 1200×1200 dpi. The printer includes the Image editor, and integrated OCR software which automatically converts scanned text to editable text. The maximum scan size output from the scanner glass is 216×356 mm and the ADF is 216×356 mm.

To capture images, select the Simple Capture option on the Home Screen. Capture an image of your document using the mobile’s camera. Adjust the corners of the document. After capturing the image, modify the image file under the Destination section. Select the Email or any cloud destination. Sign-in to a cloud destination using the Account that you have created, and tap Send.

How to copy documents


Power up the printer, and place a stack of plain paper in the input tray. Load your document on the scanner glass, and tap the Copy icon on the printer’s control panel. Select Start and tap OK.

How to copy on both sides of a page?


Turn on the printer, select On -> Copy settings on your printer’s control panel. Touch the two-sided copying option. If you are going to use the ADF, your job will become much simpler. It can automatically scan, and make 2-sided copies of your original. If you are scanning using the scanner glass, flip the printed page to print on the other side.

How to fax?

Get a telephone cord having two wire leads. Plug the phone cord to the phone wall jack and to the 1-LINE jack at the back of the printer. Connect the phone cord to an answering machine and the 2-EXT jack on the rear of the printer. Set up fax settings, and run a fax test report. Once you are set with all the requirements, load the document that you want to fax on the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) tray. You can also place your document on the scanner glass. Pull the input tray out, and check if you have loaded enough paper into it. Dial the receiving fax number from the printer’s control panel, and then Press the Black, Color or Send button to send the fax. The printer should print a fax report if the fax has been sent successfully.
